Pool Repairs
Pool Leak Detection Wellington County
Losing water and not sure where it's going? We locate leaks accurately before any digging or repair work begins.
What We Do
If your pool is losing water, the problem won't fix itself.
We've been locating and repairing pool leaks across Guelph, Fergus, Elora, Rockwood, Acton, and Wellington County since 2006. A pool that loses more than a quarter inch of water per day through evaporation alone has a leak. Left unaddressed, a leak wastes thousands of litres of water per season, throws off your water chemistry, and can erode the ground beneath your pool structure.
We locate the leak accurately before recommending any repair. No guesswork, no unnecessary digging. Fixed quote before any work begins.

How We Find It
We locate the leak before we recommend any repair.
We use a combination of visual inspection, dye testing, pressure testing of plumbing lines, and equipment isolation to pinpoint where the water is going. Pool leaks can originate from fittings, returns, skimmers, the main drain, the plumbing lines, or the shell itself. Each requires a different diagnostic approach.
Once we identify the source we give you a clear explanation of the problem and a fixed quote for the repair. We never recommend digging or major work until we know exactly where the leak is coming from.
How It Works
From first call to leak found and fixed. Here's what to expect.
Step 01
Call Us
Tell us how much water you are losing and how quickly. We will ask a few questions to understand the situation before booking the detection visit.
Step 02
Detection Visit
We perform a full leak detection using visual inspection, dye testing, and pressure testing to pinpoint the exact source of the leak.
Step 03
Fixed Quote
Once the leak is located we give you a clear explanation and a fixed price for the repair before any work begins. No surprises on the invoice.
Step 04
Repair
We repair the leak properly. Where possible we complete detection and repair in a single visit. Complex repairs requiring excavation are scheduled as a follow up.

Pool Leak Detection FAQ
Your pool leak detection questions, answered.
How do I know if my pool has a leak or if it is just evaporation?
The bucket test is the most reliable way to distinguish evaporation from a leak. Fill a bucket with pool water and place it on a pool step so it is partially submerged. Mark the water level inside and outside the bucket. After 24 hours compare the two levels. If the pool has lost more water than the bucket, the pool has a leak. Pools typically lose up to a quarter inch of water per day through evaporation in warm weather. Loss beyond that suggests a leak.
Where do pool leaks most commonly occur?
The most common sources of pool leaks are fittings and return jets, the skimmer throat and faceplate, the main drain gasket, underground plumbing lines, the light fitting and conduit, and for vinyl liner pools, tears or lifting at the liner seams or around fittings. Each requires a different detection method. Pristine Pools uses a systematic approach to isolate the source before recommending any repair.
How much water loss indicates a pool leak?
A pool losing more than a quarter inch of water per day beyond normal evaporation likely has a leak. At that rate an average inground pool can lose 1,500 to 2,000 litres of water per week. Beyond the water cost, a leak that goes unaddressed can erode the ground around and beneath the pool structure, shift the pool shell, and cause damage that is significantly more expensive to repair than the original leak.
Can a pool leak be repaired without draining the pool?
Many pool leaks can be repaired without fully draining the pool. Fitting and return jet leaks, skimmer repairs, and minor vinyl liner tears are often repaired with the pool still full or with a partial drain. Underground plumbing leaks that require excavation may require the pool to be partially drained before repair. Pristine Pools assesses the repair requirements after detection and advises on whether a full or partial drain is necessary before any work begins.
How long does a pool leak detection take?
A standard pool leak detection visit typically takes 2 to 3 hours depending on pool size and the complexity of the plumbing system. Pristine Pools performs a systematic detection covering all common leak points including fittings, skimmer, main drain, plumbing lines, and the shell or liner. Where possible the repair is completed in the same visit. Complex leaks involving underground plumbing may require a follow up repair visit after detection.
Will a pool leak get worse over time?
Yes. A pool leak that is not repaired will typically worsen over time. Water escaping through a fitting or liner tear can erode the surrounding soil, wash away the sand or vermiculite base beneath a vinyl liner, undermine the deck or coping, and in severe cases shift or crack the pool structure. The cost of repairing the secondary damage caused by an ignored leak is almost always greater than the cost of fixing the leak when it is first detected.
Do you repair pool leaks that you did not detect?
Pristine Pools prefers to perform the detection before the repair to ensure the source is accurately identified. In some cases where another party has already performed a detection and the leak source is clearly documented, we can provide a repair quote based on that information. Contact us with the detection report and we will advise on whether we can proceed directly to repair or whether a verification visit is recommended first.
